SO now i'm making a single thread like most reasonably intelligent people do that houses everything about what happens to my car from this point forward!

Is my car a track car or a street monster in the making? Who knows, that's the fun! Hallway Pat thinks I'm stupid and I'm gonna ruin my car, but what does he know !? He drives a 5-ton boat anchor with no LSD and faulty n54 fuel injectors so nobody cares what he thinks! bwahaha

EDIT: Pat plz roll my front fenders kkthx

Turbo plans temporarily shelved - nabbed this brand new set of kW clubsports for $2k shipped, couldn't pass up the deal. Had to throw in M3 bits for the front and some rear subframe bushings to complete the package. I'm into this setup for 2800 bucks which is pretty damn good considering the retail price on just the clubsports alone is 3200.

I've got stainless lines and decent track pads, so up next will likely be Stoptech rotors and replacing my brake caliper pistons. Before Spring I will be grabbing some apex arc-8 wheels and handing my car over to Big Bear Tire to see what kind of fitment options I have for a square tire setup for the track after they adjust suspension.

Merry Christmas. To me. A month early.

I sent the logs to Terry and he just got back to me and says the afr looks fine. His direct words were actually "the richer AFR on n55 leads to more misfires and headaches, which is why it's set where it is". You tune higher boost on these turbos to low 12's AFR you will actually misfire at higher rpm's. It goes against the convention of every other car I've ever owned being happy at about 12.3 AFR, but PURE's shop cars have the same thing so I'm not gonna worry about it.

Here is one of their charts and the AFR is very similar to mine. They run about 12.9 sooner but above 4500 rpm they are still at 13.3 or so:

So far so good. N55's do run a bit more on the lean side anyway but my AFRs pull down to about 12.9-13.1 above 5400 rpm. Terry looked at logs I emailed him and said it looked fine but with the timing on the BEF I just don't see a 12.3 AFR happening without PI or meth. I don't think it's going to be anywhere near dangerous enough to lean out at those numbers, though.

Now the car is running where I thought it should've been to begin with. Very happy and I finally feel like I can call this car "done" in my eyes. I know some people are pushing the N55 further but in my opinion that's a $$$ rabbit hole that just isn't worth going down. At some point I'm going to sell this car and move into V8 territory.

475 whp / 477 wtq on E50 was my best pull today. The power band looks fantastic and I really couldn't be happier, especially knowing that I put all the parts on the car together myself and shit isn't blowing up.

First 2 pulls were back at 21 psi same as what I had last week when I was making 420. When those looked clean I upped the targets to 23 psi in the midrange. Pull 3 had intake temps of 120 degrees so I had their dyno tech spray the engine down a bit before the 4th pull and picked up an extra 9 hp / 8 tq on the 4th pull. 23 psi in the midrange gave a really nice power increase between 4k and 5500 as you can see.

I am not ruling out the tune at this point either - I have a custom E85 BEF but I emailed Terry again about getting 98F0B posted. He never wrote a bef for that version of the n55 DME, which is frustrating. I sent him some data logs of what i currently have pleading with him because we talked 1.5 months ago and he said he'd write it but never did.

I would really like to have that in my pocket to upload and test with to see if it is just a tuning issue on the back end. Hopefully he responds today.

I know my E85 backend flash drops all cylinder timing to 9-10° right when I hit full boost. From there, it tapers up to 12-13° advanced. Looks to me like all of your cylinders (except #1) aren't advancing timing.

probably. it only takes a minute to swap them but I was at the dyno more to just get a base run of where I am currently at. Not really trying to solve world problems there. LMT had $50 pulls for the month of May which is a pretty good deal so I figured why the hell not.

I'm done hobcobbling posts together on Wed, 01 Jun 2016 16:10:48 GMT

Got some early dyno results here that I'm pretty happy with but my car clearly has issues. Went to LMT this morning and put down roughly 420/470 with a boatload of timing problems. You can see the horespower just flatlines at 5k when it should just keep going up higher and higher to redline. The torque and hp lines start to drop at the exact same point when timing starts getting pulled. There is a nasty drop at 5400 as well. Data logs have continued to show cylinder 1 as the primary culprit.

So my plan is this: figure out if I have a bad coil or injector on Cylinder 1, then get these new colder N20 plugs installed and working properly. Currently running a stock heat range plug and some of you know I tried the N20 plugs as recommended by Dzenno and PTF and I had some issues. I'm going to revisit that because they are a colder heat range and many other N55s are reporting success with them. Today I am going to swap coils between cylinders 1 and 2 to see if my timing issue shifts over to cylinder 2.

Hopefully this will inform me enough to fix the car and resume tuning because at this point all I have is a cobb flash and a JB4 with high boost targets. No adjustments have been dialed in yet for AFR or timing bias in my jb4 map.

That's exactly what I thought. I took the tie rods off a while back and greased the outer ball joints but that didn't help at all. It sounds like it's more where the rack and pinion meet.

I haven't been able to definitively figure it out either. I"ve re-torqued everything but it sounds like the steering boots are pulling.

shoulda taken it back to them. They do a lot of track setups for people I know and I've had all 4 of my cars there and never any issues. Jason is usually really good. Our goal should be to get our steering problem fixed before the next WIBimmers meet, otherwise Snap will just have more ammunition to make fun of us with as he lashes out at others who have functioning cars because he refuses to man up and buy a 335.
