In my own search I've found that having your own private shop is just too expensive. Ben (Gunmetalgrey) let me rent some space from him last year, and it worked out great. So well in fact that I'll be driving 100 miles up there on weekends to work on my car this winter. Sharing a space is definitely more economical for all parties involved, and can be a lot more fun if you find the right people. Sharing a shop with the wrong people has the potential to be a nightmare though, so if you choose that route, choose wisely.
