<![CDATA[Here's a stupid question]]>Does anyone know what the "e" stands for? e90, e92, e30, etc etc. Maybe some Germany word meaning chassis?

It was the abriviation of the German word Entwicklungscode meaning Development Code. 'M' simply stands for motor. The new codes have just gone with the next letter of the alphabet.

At this rate it won't be long till we have 'E' chassis codes and nobody will know what anyone is to referring to anymore

Or if you go the Excel route, after z, you start with aa, ab.

I actually thought it was an alphabetic progression, with e being the fifth generation, just because the newer generation is f31 etc.
